Virginia Tech is committed to providing appropriate services and accommodations that allow identified students with disabilities access to academic programs. To achieve this goal, the university provides services through Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD).
To be eligible for services, students must identify themselves to the SSD office. Students are also required to provide documentation of their disability. Until the appropriate documentation is provided, SSD cannot support a student’s request for services.
Accommodations and services are determined on an individual basis. Once appropriate documentation is received, SSD will schedule a follow-up consultation to determine possible accommodations and next steps for the student. These accommodations may not always be the same as the student received in high school or at another college or university.
There are different requirements for registering with SSD based on your enrollment in the university, whether you’re a current student or an incoming student.
