Mya Hooks serves as the Assistant Director of Student Services in the Services for Students with Disabilities office. Mya is very passionate about education and advocating for students. Her primary responsibilities are to provide support to students with disabilities and serve as a resource for students, faculty, and staff on topics of disability inclusion and accessibility.
Mya holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Wingate University, and a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy from Appalachian State University. Mya served as an Academic Coach and Counselor in the Services for Students with Disabilities office for five years and is a Board Certified Coach (BCC) through the Center for Credentialing and Education. Prior to coming to Virginia Tech, Mya worked as a Therapeutic Day Treatment Counselor with at-risk youth at an alternative school in Salem, Virginia and in the Roanoke City public school system. She also served as a graduate mentor to undergraduate students at Appalachian State University. Mya has experience assisting students with a range of social, emotional, and academic barriers.
