Katie Smith

Katie Smith is an Access Specialist with the Services for Students with Disabilities Office at Virginia Tech. Katie works with students with disabilities to ensure that they have access to the university experience. Having grown up in the New River Valley area, Katie is thrilled to be a Hokie and to embody the Ut Proism spirit each day.

Katie brings several years of experience to the SSD Office, having served as an Access Specialist at Radford University, as well as an Access Specialist for the University of North Carolina, Asheville. Katie holds a Master of Arts degree in Disability Studies from the School of Professional Studies at the City University of New York, located in New York, NY. During her time at CUNY SPS, Katie developed a keen interest in disability law and policy in Higher Education, as well as disability advocacy. Katie also holds an M.A. in English from Radford University and a B.A. in English Education from Bridgewater College.

Separate from her work with Virginia Tech, Katie serves as a field associate for the Anabaptist Disabilities Network.
